Notes from the President
Julie H. Linden, PhD
July 2015
Summer solstice has passed in the north, and for our friends in the southern hemisphere the prospect of winter is being welcomed as a source of relief from a long hot summer. A recent meeting of the Board of Directors in Orvieto, Italy, gathered from four of the continents, to address a large agenda. An international society is alert to what is happening in each of the hemispheres, and we are pleased to report that an excited group of therapists will be coming from China to Paris, thanks to the outreach and educational efforts of Bernhard Trenkle. We hope that one day soon they will form a new Constituent Society (CS) of ISH.
From another continent we have a new constituent Society to embrace under our umbrella. From Portugal, APHCH – Portuguese Association Of Clinical Hypnosis And Hypnoanalysis was voted as the newest CS of ISH during our May board meeting. It is exciting to see this large group join the world hypnosis community.
The most recent vote on the amendment to the by-laws is in, and the amendment passed. This should conclude the very comprehensive and detailed work the board did over three years to update and improve the ISH By-Laws.
On a personal note, this has been a busy and productive three years buy xanax online legally serving as your president. With the help of the Board I was able to accomplish what I had set as an agenda for the ISH. We are financially stable, with a virtual office that facilitates online membership. The online and print journal subscriptions are reaching their destinations. The ISH has a detailed website with membership directory, video library, a quarterly newsletter, scanned archives of past newsletters, updated By-Laws, and lots of information about the governance and history of ISH. A mission to address who is ISH, to establish us as a world headquarters, and to increase our leadership in research have all been implemented. In Paris, ISH will host its first Hypnosis Research Update Conference, with the hope that this will be a triennial event.
I want to emphasize that this was a group process, a collection of diverse individuals who each brought wisdom, creativity and collegiality to our work. This Board of Directors made my job both easy and fun.
This will be my last president’s notes, as I soon pass the gavel on to our president-elect, Dr. Claude Virot. I feel many emotions, and most of all confidence in the ISH future I look ahead to the next three years, serving as the immediate past president and enjoying the prospect of meeting you all in Montreal 2018.
